Our story and how we work together

Overview

PHA is a community of practice for organisational, tech and digital change and learning

Led by Founder, Philippa Hale, this is a group of independent consultants, coaches, facilitators and organisations who share the PHA values and approaches. We come together for specific projects, each bringing our own expertise and ways of working, so everything we do is kept fresh, relevant and grounded in sound practice.

Our Story, Approach and mission

2004 - 2024

Philippa set up PHA to provide plain speaking, inclusive, practical support and experiential learning for teams and leaders of Organisational, Tech & Digital change.

Our approach combines the best of elements of consultancy, training, coaching and facilitation disciplines, with you in the driving seat, rather than you and your people feeling ‘done to’.

We provide clients with the depth and breadth of experience and resource they need, without the overheads of a large consultancy. For us, this gives us the flexibility to work with a wide range of organisations, from small start ups, through to large globals. We can then share knowledge and experience with each other and our clients.

We help you not just to deliver a specific change, but to use the experience of working with us to build a strategic change mindset into your culture, to equip your people for whatever the future throws.

Meet our community

Philippa Hale

Founder, Change Leader, Coach, Facilitator

Seasoned organisational change leader, consultant and PM, business and leadership team coach, VSM and business simulation enthusiast, with depth and breadth of experience in both Tech & Digital, OD, HR and L&D worlds.

Philippa was an Executive Fellow at Henley Business School for many years, designing and delivering change leadership programmes. She is also a qualified Business Agility and DevOps instructor for the DevOps Institute. She brings together inspirational people, best suited to clients' context and goals. Lisa Sarjeant

Lisa is a seasoned HR practitioner and
retained HR specialist for start-ups and growing organisations. We are currently working on several leadership development and organisational change programmes, to support clients experiencing rapid organisational growth.

Stuart McSkimming

Stuart has been CIO and Board member for many NFPs, including Royal British Legion.
We are currently co-facilitating presentation skills for Tech & Digital leaders, bringing in Stuart's experience of being on both sides of the table at those crucial business presentation meetings

Alban Low

Alban drew the cartoons on this site. Alban also attends our client events, drawing the action live. His keen eye and intuition for business and group dynamics provides fresh insights. His cartoons communicate complex change concepts and messages instantly. His sense of fun puts people at ease and open to learning with and from each other.

Laura Dawson

Laura was CIO of LSE and Global CIO of the British Council. Now Trustee of Charity IT Leaders.
Our collaborations have included co-delivering organisational reviews of technology functions of not-for-profit organisations, and co-facilitation of business simulations.

Ian Williams

Ian works with HR specialists and teams supporting Tech & Digital functions working on technology-driven transformation. His experience in HR is invaluable when supporting changes that affect large groups of people and roles. He also brings the valuable GC Index tool, for individual leader and team development.

Alison Moran

Alison is a qualified and experienced development coach, mediator, learning programme designer, facilitator and trainer of trainers. She has worked extensively in the Arts and for HM Prison and Probation services. She also provides coaching and educational support for children and parents juggling life and work.

Rupert Field

Collaborations with Rupert have included business simulation facilitation, VSM, Agile and DevOps ways of working change projects and coaching change leaders. Rupert is a seasoned VSM specialist, member of the Value Stream Management Consortium, DevOps Institute Ambassador and Agile transformation lead.

The Dot Collective

An innovative data specialist consultancy that 'gets' the people elements of organisation change. Our collaborations bring together their depth of experience in business value creation through data management and our skills in handling the people challenges of changing work - including data-related - practices.

Gaming Works

Gamingworks are the designers of our favourite business simulation games: Phoenix Project and Apollo 13, and many others. This Netherlands-based team, led by Jan Schilt and Paul Wilkinson who have worked with us since 2004.

CITL

Charity IT Leaders are an energetic and innovative community of senior IT leaders in the NFP sector. We are proud to support them, providing pro-bono coaching and guest speaking events and workshops each year. In exchange, their senior IT leader members help us to road test and critique our new offerings.

Incite Insight

Founder and CEO Marcus Harris and his team have worked with us since 2004. Together (formerly as Open Limits) we have created programmes of learning and delivered consultancy projects for over 100 organisations in a range of sectors and industries, in the Tech & Digital and L&D functions of larger organisations, and organisation-wide for growing SMEs.
